Sub-Rosa: Field Preparation

Before a private investigator goes into the field to conduct surveillance activities, he or she should conduct a preliminary investigation and gather as much information as is possible on their subject. Prior to initiating an investigation a comprehensive background check should always be conducted on the subject. This will provide you with their most current address, possible business associations, and many more important findings. All prior reports and related documentation should be reviewed thoroughly and confirmed. A review of these reports may shed light on the subject's daily activities, behavior, and the nature of his or her injury with respect to worker's compensation claims. Having additional information such as the subject's daily routine, habits, and hobbies will also provide you with information that can be used to pretext and gain information from your subject. Maps of the subject's neighborhood and the surrounding area should be studied in great detail. Knowing the exits out of a subdivision as well as routes that lead to highways are critical for mobile surveillance purposes. All of the information obtained is used to conduct a successful investigation in the field.
